Passage of Elements

2024 - 2025

A 3-meter-wide watercourse, nestled between two 600mm-thick walls, runs through the heart of the site, connecting a diverse array of public and private programmes. This watercourse functions as a bioswale, sustainably fed by rainwater collected from the building’s rooftops. The fluctuating water levels create a dynamic, tidal-like movement, fostering a rich ecosystem that supports a variety of flora and fauna, enhancing the natural environment within the project. The 600mm walls are constructed from rubble salvaged from the demolition of existing structures, while the site’s carefully preserved ground conditions provide a foundation for the new architecture, allowing for a harmonious layering of the proposed design over the original landscape. The geometric watercourse, cutting through the expansive site, acts as a central artery, drawing various programmatic elements together and creating visual and spatial connections between the different activities, weaving them into a cohesive and engaging whole.
